This community west of Houston has become very popular over the past decade. Located just 25 miles from downtown Houston along I-10 (also known as the Katy Freeway), the city was once rich farmland. It has grown tremendously but still has a small-town feel. With more than 21,000 acres of parkland, there are plenty of recreational activities for families to enjoy around town. The city also hosts several events throughout the year including the Rice Harvest Festival in Old Town Katy featuring more than 300 food and craft booths, a carnival, and family entertainment. Another popular destination for residents is the Katy Mills Mall, a 1.3 million square-foot market retail and entertainment destination. The mall includes a food court, restaurants, and movie theater. The Katy Independent School District serves students in the Fort Bend, Harris and Waller Counties. It has grown to more than 70,000 students and has been rated one of the highest possible ratings by the Texas Education Agency. With all that Katy has to offer, that is why it is known for its small town charm and big city conveniences.
