Located in the Inner Loop of Houston and northeast of Downtown, it was first established back in the late 1800s.  It was one of the nation’s first “master-planned” communities with streets, parks, utilities, schools and a business district.  It was annexed in 1917 by the city.  There are three historic districts within the Heights area: the Houston Heights Historic District West, the Houston Heights Historic District East, and the Houston Heights Historic District South.  Each section has enforced deed restrictions to keep the neighborhood’s character and charm.  With its rich architecture and local shops nearby, it is a popular area for all types of homeowners. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Heights has enjoyed a revitalization over the years.
